Hello and welcome to chansak.tripod.com, my first homepage.

This is just spead a little information.

For the people who want to make VCD, I suggest to make SVCD, it’s much better quality. (check your DVD player before)
Since my DVD (Distar) does not play with miniDVD, and I have no budget to by DVD-R, so I have to save all my home VDO with SVCD format. The quality of SVCD is better than VHS, because VHS has some noise.

Step to make SVCD.

I suggest you to run all software on Win2K because your video file consume about 15 Gb / Hr.

1. Record your home movie by your handycam (I suggest to use digital because no noise and picture quality is better, I use Sony digital ).

2. Buy capture card and it’s driver. (for digital cam, you have to use dvlink or firewire card, I use Grand 1394)

3. For analog video download capture software from www.virtualdub.org and capture your movie to capture.avi, for digital you can use dvio.exe or software that come with your firewire card.

4. Download mpeg-2 software from http://www.tmpgenc.net unzip and run tmpgenc.exe and load your capture.avi and load SVCD template and convert it to xxx.mpg, but mpeg-2 can be used only 30 days then you have to download and install new version.

Another way is to Run regedit and find:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{63902277-B101-4049-8B46-C24B67E155E5}

then delete this line.

I’ve tested many mpeg-2 encoder such as CCE SP 2.50, avi2mpeg2, Tmpgenc 12j, Tmpgenc 2.53, Tmpgenc 2.53 Plus, Ulead VideoStudio 6.0, LSX-mpeg, MGI videowave 5, Roxio.

The best quality are Tmpgenc 2.53 plus, Tmpgenc 12j and CCE SP 2.50.

5. Download cd-burner software from http://www.nero.com and write your xxx.mpg to CD, that’s it.

This is very rough information, for details you can find it on http://www.vcdhelp.com and many useful softwares on http://www.souxin.com/mpeg4software.htm
Or http://www.divx-digest.com/software/index.html

Good luck
